Removal of Malware From Windows 7 Computers

Intro:
Many of us have accidentally downloaded malware onto our PCs and have had difficulty removing it. This Instructable will show how to do three things to remove the software from your system. These three tasks are uninstalling programs, resetting your browser and performing a System Restore if necessary.

Disclaimer:
The System Restore is not a Factory Reset. Your files including pictures, documents and media will not be harmed. That said, as always, there is a slight risk involved when editing system files, so make sure you have your files backed up.

Open Control Panel in Windows and Click on "Uninstall a Program"

It is best to arrange the view by the Installation date so that you can identify which programs were installed when the symptoms arose or see if several unknown programs were installed at the same time. To sort, click on the column title, "Installed On"

Select programs that were installed in bunches or that look suspicious. These programs can be easily researched on the internet prior to removal.

Next, we will reset your browser. In this step, we will reset Internet Explorer. If you use Chrome, Firefox or even multiple browsers, they can all be easily reset. Often times these settings are hijacked by malware. To begin, open Control Panel and click on "Internet Options"

Click the "Advanced" tab and then click "Reset..."

Check the "Delete personal settings" box and click on "Reset"

When updates are installed, Windows automatically sets a system restore point. This is a snapshot of the system files that can be used to return the system to a previous state if the update goes awry. Your personal files (docs, pics, music, etc...) will not be affected. To begin, open the open "System Restore" under Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore

Click Next

Check the option to "Show more restore points"

This will allow you to choose an older restore point to make sure you go back far enough.

After you click Finish, the system will restart. This process can take around 15 minutes to complete.

This simple process will take care of the majority of malware infections in my experience and all at no cost to you!
