Replacing a Fuel Filter (Honda Civic 1999 D15B).

Replacing the fuel filter on my honda civic 1999 is a task I dread. It's one of the most frustrating jobs to do on such a well designed car.

Disconnect the Bottom Connector.

Fairly easy to do. Gasoline of course will come out but not that much.

Remove the top banjo bolt and filter bracket. Again easy enough. The old filter will have gasoline coming out of it.

Install the New Filter Onto the Bottom Connector.

This step is the most frustrating and maddening. Deep breaths only serve to inhale gasoline vapors. No calming of mind or spirit here.

The filter you get is sometimes a hit or miss. That threaded female port on the bottom of the filter must perfectly match the car's connector. I got a filter that refused to thread in although it looked the same. After 90 minutes I threw it away and got another one. This one of a different manufacturer went in great with hand threading.

The filter though has to be pulled slightly away from the bracket to allow hand threading. Once that is done it can be clamped into its bracket and the bottom connector properly tightened.

Install the Banjo Bolt With New Washers.

Quite easy to perform.

Starting the Engine Up!

I put the key into the position right before ignition to let the fuel pump fill the filter. I did this 4 times then started the car. I needed to mash the gas pedal a few times for her to run smoothly.

Now the engine has cleaned filtered fuel and car and owner (me!) are happy.
