Repurposed Cutting Board

Do you have an old cracked cutting board lying around? Have no fear! You can turn that old cutting board into a new canvas! The more cracked and warped, the better!

Choose the Side You Want to Work on and Sand It!

I chose the side without the black stain, but I think it would still look great if I used the other side. It could add texture and character to the non painted spaces.

I sanded down the scratches and cuts on both sides, just in case I changed my mind later.

Choose Your Colors and Brushes!

I think that black and white are essential for this project. You can use them to lighten and darken the other colors, and use them by themselves.

I chose yellow, teal, and green, as well and black and white. I used these paints to make a variety of colors, keeping my colors similar.

For paintbrushes, chose a few fine brushes.

Start Painting!

It may be easier to set a guideline in pencil first. I freehanded mine, but it is not even or straight. I think it gives it character.

You don't have to paint a pattern, paint whatever you want!
I decided to start with a border around the edge, moving inward to create a mandala-like pattern.

Go Back and Add More Detail!

It's the little things that matter. Get your general pattern down, then go back periodically and add little details. Don't obsess over one area at a time.

Be Creative!

Be creative and have fun!
I'm super happy with how mine turned out, and I'd love to see yours!
