Retro Ball Chair Design - Tinkercad
Intro & Supplies
This tutorial will take you through the steps of how to build a retro ball chair in Tinkercad.
All you need is a an empty Tinkercad project.
Remember to title or name your work at the top!
Getting Started
Drag a sphere onto the workplane.
Hold 'Shift' on your keyboard, and use the corner squares to resize the sphere to 60.00.
First Hole
Drag another sphere onto the work plane.
Under 'Shape' in the top right of the workspace, select 'Change to hole'.
Resize this hole to 45.00.
Move and Align Hole
Using the cone, drag the hole up to 30.00.
Select both the sphere and the whole by holding shift and clicking each object.
In the top right of the tool bar, and select Align.
Next, select the middle notches resting on the work plane.
You should then have something similar to the third picture.
Grouping
Adjust the height of the hole to your liking using the cone.
Then select both objects.
Use the Group tool to group the two objects into one.
Beginning to Shape Using Prism
Drag a box onto the work plane.
Resize the box to around 74.00. (I actually ended up needing to change it to about 83.)
Box Holes
Change the box you just resized into a hole.
Adjust the height to about halfway, or so, up the hollowed sphere shape.
The use the rotators to give the chair an angled edge.
Make a duplicate of the existing box hole by selecting the box, hold ctrl on your keyboard and press 'D'.
You can then use the duplicate to flatten the base of the sphere.
Simply use the cone to change its height to just above 0.
Group Again
Select all objects and group.
You should have an object similar to the second picture.
Cushion
Drag a half sphere onto your work plane.
Resize to 43.00. (Remember to hold shift!)
Also use the cone to drag the half sphere a couple units off the work plane.
Select both the hollowed and shaped sphere.
Use the Align tool to place the cushion in the chair.
Decoration!
Drag a star onto your work plane. (You can really use any shape here - it's just for decoration!)
Next select the work plane tool in the top left.
Move the work plane to the back of the chair.
Adjust Decoration
Rotate the star, or decoration object to be parallel with the work plane.
Hold shift, and resize the shape until it is small enough to fit on the back of the chair, or to your liking.
Align and Place
Select the chair and decoration object, and use the Align tool to center the decoration.
Next, use the cone to move the object into the chair. Be sure that there is enough shape left outside of the chair that you can see its shape!
Done!
Congrats on completing this project!
Remember it is customizable, so you can change the colors or the decoration shape.
I hope you had fun! :D
