Reverse Engineering and 3D Printing a Lego First Order Tie Fighter!

First, before we begin, you must buy a Lego First Order Tie Fighter for reference purposes. You'll also need AutoDesk Inventor on your computer in order to design it.

Start Creating the Wing

Next, open up AutoDesk Inventor and create an assembly file. Now, with a caliper, measure each individual Lego piece and begin designing them and assembling the wing in Inventor. Patience is key!

Finish Up the Wing

Finish up the wing, and don't worry, you only have to make one since you can just mirror the other.

Move on to the Body

After you've finished the wing, create a separate assembly file for the body. Just like before, use a caliper to measure and design each individual piece and then assemble it in Inventor.

Assemble

Once you've finished with that, go ahead and create yet another assembly and then combine the other two assembly files together to form the finished Tie Fighter. Don't forget to mirror the wing!

Compare and Then 3D Print!

Now, use the Tie Fighter you bought to compare and see if it looks correct, if it does, you're done and ready to 3D print it! Go ahead and save the assembly file as an STL file and then print it using your choice of software! Great job!
