ROBOT CITY 3.1_branco.jpg

Do you want to create your very own little robot mascot? Search no more, we have the perfect activity for you!

So before jumping to the instructions, what is Robot City?

Robot City is an European project funded by the Erasmus+ Programme which aims to develop skills on coding and Robot development on Young people. The main result of this project will be an app where young people will be able to create and share their own robots in a virtual ROBOT CITY. This project is being developed by a group of teacher's, educators and developers, from multiple nationalities that is hoping to help you begin your journey in the world of robotics

So, let's jump to main focus of this instructable, our little robot mascot.

Taking inspiration from the robot that you will able to program on your mobile device, we've built a simplified version capable of being built from paper. You can get the files from this instructable, or directly from our website

Let's jump right in

Supplies

Roughly cut all parts of the model. On the back of the pieces write pertinent information about the piece that you are about to cut and fold. Things like the part number, and any letters that might be removed when you cut the piece to it's final shape.

This model contains three optional pieces, that you can use to personalize your robot. A paintbrush, a "pusher" accessory and a forklift.

Pre Score

FHC8YZ6K6G6VTQG.jpg

This step is optional, but we strongly advise you to do it.

Using the small red arrows as a guide, pre-score all of the folds that you will soon be doing. This makes the job of folding a lot easier and makes for a much better looking little robot.

Building the Head

Grab the piece labelled with the number 1.

Cut it along side the solid lines.

Fold the part using the red arrows as a guide.

Add a small amount of glue to the white tab on the left side of the model, then glue it to the opposite side, as per the pictures.

Add glue to the white tabs on the front of the model and fold the face to them. Adjust to ensure that it follows the contour of the face.

Add glue to the white tabs on the back of the part and fold the last flap to meet up with the white tabs.

You should now have a fully formed robot head in your hands.

Glueing the Main Body

Take the next part labelled with a number 2.

Cut it using the solid lines as a guide.

Fold the part using the red arrows as a guide.

Add glue to the white tabs and fold them to meet up with the side flaps, marked R and L

Side Spacers

FOATKP0K6G6VTUE.jpg

Grab the two parts marked with the number 3

Cut them along the lines and fold them as per the red arrows.

These pieces will be soon be used to join the wheels with the robot.

Ears

FFW5J7QK6G6VTUF.jpg

Grab the two pieces labelled 4.

Before completely cutting the pieces, fold them in half using the red arrows as a guide.

The coloured outside tabs on the these pieces mean that they will be receiving glue on the underside, but for now only the middle portion needs glue. So fold them in the middle, add a little bit of glue and then cut both of the ears along their perimeter (check the pictures for guidance).

Wheels

Grab the pieces labelled with 5 and 6.
Before of completely cutting the pieces, fold them in half using the red arrows as a guide.

Now glue each of the pieces, so that you have a "clean" tire on one side and a marked (R or L) tire on the other side.

You can now cut the tires along the outside perimeter.

This part is optional as well as all of the accessories.

Cut part number 8 along the perimeter lines.

Fold it according to the red arrows and just like the pictures show.

This part is optional as well as all of the accessories.

Cut part number 9 along the outside lines.

Fold the part as per the red arrows.

Fold and glue the two white tabs on to themselves, so that the top of the forklift is slightly ticker (see the pictures).

Grab parts 1 and 4.

Glue the ears (parts 4) to the top of part 1.

Grab parts 2 and 3.

Glue part 3 to the side of the main body (part 2), use the thin white line as a guide for the correct placement. Repeat on the other side.

Grab the tires (parts 5 and 6) and the previous part (main body and spacers).

Notice the arrow point forward on the top of the body, this denotes the correct orientation of the model. Glue the R tire to the side marked with R, use the thin white line as a guide. Repeat for the L side.
