Rootage of Plantlets

There are different techniques how to make plantlets build roots. The way I am about to show you can also be used for cuttings from plants. And you can observe the progress which is very nice.

I use the beautiful and easy to handle Chlorophytum Comosum Ocean for this instruction.

You need:
Plant which builds plantlets
Knife
Disinfectant
Plastic container
Adhesive tape
Scissors
Plastic ribbon
Piece of fabric
Water

It is important to disinfect the
equipment because bacteria make the plantlets rot and decay.

We do not want that to happen.

Now create a grid with the ribbon on the plastic container.

This makes it easy to place the plantlets later. We want them to be with the bottom in water and to keep their little leafs dry.

You can decorate the container as you like.

An old piece of fabric wrapped around the container looks nice.
I kept the sides open for watching the roots.

Cut the stems with the knife as near as possible to the center of the plant.

Without the stems the plant will have more growth and it gets pretty and thick.

The bigger the plantlets are the bigger is the chance they will start building roots.
They need at least to be about 2 inches (that is what I was reading).

Remove the plantlets from the stems. Just pull a little and they will come off easy.

Please eliminate the blossoms and very small leaves because these parts can rot in the water.

Fill the container with water and place the plantlets in their hotel!
Make sure the part where they build roots is in the water.

The best place for the rooting plantlets is warm and bright but without direct sun.
If it is very cold they do not grow.

Please check the water 1-2 times a week.

When the roots are about 1.5 inches long they are ready for beeing moved into flower soil.
