Rowing Wheelchair

IMG_8799.jpg

This modification is to increase the power to the drive wheels making it easier for individuals with low muscle strength of maneuver in difficult terrain. Each wheel has a ratchet device that allows the wheel to be cranked one way with the option to switch the direction. The device can also be put in neutral allowing the wheels to spin freely allowing the wheelchair to be pushed.

Attach the ratchet to the socket and select the direction of travel.

A string can be attached to the end of the ratchet to keep the handle within arms reach.

When pushing the wheelchair from behind it is best to have the Direction Switch in the middle position to allow the wheels to spin freely.
