Rubber Band Target That Lights Up Upon a Bullseye!
After seeing the Rubber band competition I wondered what could be better than a target to flick the things at?
I have designed this target in such a way that only a bullseye will light it up thus giving the full experience of hitting a reactive target.
The equipment is simple, all you need is typed up below:
- Sticky tape
- Blue tac
- Knife
- Scissors
- Aluminium foil
- Cardboard box and small sheet
- Rubber bands (of course)
- Working circuit (explained in step 1)
- You also need the 10th item
- The ability to HAVE FUN!
The Main Circuit.
The main circuit is simple, you will need a 330 resistor and a battery and a LED.
Put these together like the photos show.
Basically you have to get two bits of wire.
Strip the ends.
Attach one leg of the LED to the end of ONE of the wires.
Get the other wire and cut it in half.
Strip these two new ends.
Put the resistor in between the cut wires thus joining them back together.
Attach the LED to the end of the wire/resistor/wire combination.
Insulate the connections with electrical tape.
Put the wires on the posts of the 9V battery.
If the LED doesn't light up try changing the wires around.
The Backing.
For everything to work there needs to be a backing.
You will make yours out of a piece of cardboard.
The size is mostly up to you, I have made it about a handspan for simplification.
Circuitry Side One.
You now need to tear off a piece of al-foil for the circuit, this needs to be the full length of the al-foil packet and about 10cm wide.
You will need to fold it like shown until it is about a thumb width wide.
Now tape this to the center of one side of the piece of board and wrap it around the back.
Follow the photos, in the end of this step you should have a piece of board with al-foil wrapped halfway around.
Circuitry Side Two.
This is the second part of the circuit.
You need to take a piece of A4 paper and line it up with the backing.
Cut a square (or circle) hole where the foil is.
This piece of paper will stay here so you will need to tape it on sturdily in place.
The 3rd Side of the Circuit.
This is the last part of the target circuit.
You will need to take a little lump of blue tac and roll it into a sausage, place this roll around the hole you cut in the first piece of paper, this will stop the two halves of the circuit from touching together.
Now take a piece pf foil and put it over the blue tac thus securing it in place.
Now you need to connect the wires of the circuit like shown.
Tap your finger on the foil to teat if it works.
Now you can line up your second piece of paper and instead of cutting out a hole you will draw your target.
Fold the paper around the back of the target and tape it in place along with the circuit and battery.
You will tape the LED in the top left corner of the target and put a little piece of foil under it to reflect the light better.
The Box
This is the last step, if you made it this far, please vote for me in the rubber band contest!
You now have to cut a hole in the box.
Measure around the circuitry of the target and cut a hole in the box so the target sits out but the circuit recesses.
Now tape the target in place and test it one more time, you are done!
Thanks so much for following through, I hope you enjoy your new toy (if you made it) and please share this!
