Y10 - Pencil Holder Casting

This shows the steps. to make a Mario pipe stationary holder

Step 1 : Sketching the Shapes for the Mould

How to draw a regular octagon knowing the length of one side

1. Draw 4 cm length octagon using ruler and compass (video above) on the polypropylene

2. Carefully cut the octagons with the knife or scissors

3. Draw a eight rectangle of length 14cm and width 4cm

4. Carefully cut the octagons with the knife or scissors.

Step 2 Building Up the Mould

1. Tape 8 of the rectangles to the octagon (Picture above) Make sure there is no holes or gap between the octagon and the rectangle.

2. Build up the octagonal Mould by holding up each of the rectangles and taping them. Over here also make sure there are no gaps but if there are gaps, make sure you close it with a tape but tape it more than you think is enough.

Step 3 : Creating a Cylinder for the Core

1. Draw 2 diameter 6cm circle using a compass on the polypropylene.
2. Cut the circles care fully with a scissors

3. Wrap a big polypropylene to fit the the 2 diameter 6cm circle

4.Tape the cylinder together. Make sure you put more than enough tape or else it will spill during the pouring section. (Image above)

Step 4: Pouring the Plaster in to the Mould

Step 1: Mix the plaster with water with ratio of 4:3 in the bucket and stir them. Make sure you put in the water first. ( picture above )

Step 2: Pour the mixed plaster into your mould

Step 3: Place the core cylinder into the middle of the mould ( picture above )

Step 4: leave it for at least 1 hour

Step 5: Sanding, Drilling, and Painting the Final Product

Step 1: Take out the plaster from the mould ( picture above )

Step 2 : Sand the plaster to smoothen its texture. ( video below )Step 3: drill 2 holes into the corner of the octagon

Step for Paint the Final product

Step 6 : Finished!!
