STUFFED MACKEREL

Stuffed mackerel or "bharillo bangdo" is one of the Goa's speciality. this mouth - watering dish is usually served as a snack for parties. Today lets learn how to make this fabulous dish...

INGREDIENTS...

4 mackerels

2 onions

1/2 coconut ( 1 cup grated coconut)

3 - 4 tbsp chili powder

3 - 4 turmeric powder

2 - 3 tamarind water ( soak tamarind in hot water for 10 minutes.)

1 cup coriander leaves

6 - 7 garlic cloves

1/2" ginger piece

2 -3 green chilies

1 cup semolina (rava)

coconut oil ( for frying)

salt

CLEANING THE MACKEREL...

Clean the mackerel by cutting only its head and fins.

to remove the fish bone, make a slit in the fish, start from the tail and continue till its neck.

MARINATION PASTE...

Mix 1 tbsp turmeric powder, 2 tbsp chili powder and 1 tbsp tamarind water to make a paste.

mix well.

this paste is used for marination.

MARINATION..

Marinate the fish by applying salt and the paste for 10-15 minutes.

GINGER - GARLIC PASTE

Grind 1 cup coriander leaves, 6-7 garlic cloves, 1/2 " ginger piece and 2 green chilies into a paste.

SOME CHOPPING AND GRATING...

Chop 2 onions and grate half coconut.

MAKING THE STUFFING...

For stuffing, mix 2 chopped onions, 1/2 grated coconut, 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder, 1 tbsp chili powder, 1 tbsp tamarind water, 2-3 tbsp ginger - garlic paste and salt.

mix it well.

STUFFING THE MACKEREL...

Now stuff this mixture into the mackerel and hold the fish tightly.

(make sure it doesn't open. if it does then tie a thread to it.)

Dip the mackerel in semolina (rava).

in a pan, put 1 tbsp coconut oil and shallow fry the fish.

(if u have tied it with thread then cut it after frying.)

Serve the stuffed mackerel with salad.
