Scarecrow and Snowman Pallets
How to make a decoration that can stay out from fall until winter! A cute project to do with friends or for a school fundraiser! Most of the materials will be available at local stores. For the snowman hat we found the pinecones outside, and the flowers for the scarecrow we got at Michael's for 80% off. The paint and stains will also be available at Michael's or Walmart.
Step One: Obtain Pallets
Find pallets from many businesses and ask if you can have or purchase them.
Step Two: Pull Appart Pallets
Using a crowbar, rip the boards off. For each project you will need 6 boards, the finished product will be about 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide.
Step Three: Lay Boards Flat
Lay 5 of the boards out flat and cut the 6th one in half, because this will become the brim of the hat. Staple the five vertical boards together on the top and the bottom.
Step Four: Screw the Hat Brim On
For the hat, you can either screw it on diagonal or straight across, whichever you prefer. Just make sure that you screw it on the same way on the back as well.
Step 5: Paint the Hat
Using black paint, paint the fist sides hat black, and on that same side paint the bottom half white. Let dry. Once the paint is dry flip over to begin the other side.
Step Six: Create the Scarecrow Side
On the second side, stain the hat with a redwood or dark colored stain. Stain the bottom with a natural colored stain and let dry.
Step Seven: FACES!
Now you are ready to paint the faces on both sides, Be creative!
Step Nine: Decorate
Glue the flower on the Scarecrow's hat, and for the snowman side glue on pinecones.
