Scrap Wood Heart

this is a fun project to make with scrap pallet wood! You can make it with only a jigsaw, some glue and sanding paper, but in this video I use some additional tools! Enjoy!

Supplies

  • Scrap wood
  • Wood glue
  • Jigsaw
  • Random orbit sander
  • Router table
  • Flush trim bit
  • Brad nail gun
  • Pencil

Draw Outline for the Template

First we are going to make the template so we can later use the flush trim bit on the router table to batch these hearts out if we want to make more.

take a piece of plywood and draw the heart on it.

Use the jigsaw to cut the heart out.

Sand the Template

Using the random orbit sander to smoothen the edges of the template. I use 120 grit paper here.

Sawing the Pallet Wood

using the mitre saw we cut the pallet wood pieces to size.

Tracing the Template on the Pallet Wood

Place the template on the pallet wood and trace the outline.

Saw the Pallet Wood to Rough Size

Next, we are going to use the jigsaw to cut the pallet wood pieces to their rough size. Make sure to leave the pencil line on the wood, so the scrap wood pieces are a little bit bigger than the template!

Double Sided Tape

Use double sided tape to attach the pallet wood pieces to the template.

Securing the Pallet Wood

Using wood glue and brad nails we are going to attach a cross supporting piece of pallet wood to the backside.

Flush Trim on the Router Table

Using a flush trim bit on the router table we are going to cut the pallet wood to the templates’ size. Adjust the height of your router table until the bearing runs against the template.

Remove the Template From the Pallet Heart

Using some force we remove the pallet heart from the template.

Sand the Heart

We use the random orbit sander to sand the heart smooth, making sure tonremove all splinters and prevent tearout

Adding a Mounting Clip

Using some little nails we attach the clip to hang the heart on a wall.
