Seashell Sun Catchers

These Suncatchers are pretty easy to make as long as you're willing to wait a little while. They make great gifts and can be great projects for little kids.

Supplies

1 round cookie cutter 3-inches across x 1 Inch tall

1 seashell

6 tablespoons of clear glue(approximately)

Saran wrap

Scotch tape

1 suction cup hook

3 plastic cups

2 plastic spoons

Hot glue gun

Hot glue sticks

Scissors

Food Coloring(Optional)

Prepare the Cookie Cutter

Cut out a square of Saran Rap about 4 inches by 4 inches. Set the cookie cutter in the center of the paper and tape the four corners to the cookie cutter. Make sure to tape them tightly so that no glue can escape. Finish by taping the rest of the sides to the cutter. It has to be tight or else the glue will spill out. Once you have all the sides taped, take the tape and go around the whole cookie cutter at the top of the Saran Rap. Then put your seashell in the center.

Prepare the Glue

Put 4 tablespoons of glue in one cup and one tablespoon in each of the other two cups. Leave the 4 tablespoons clear and dye the other two any color you like I used blue and purple, It doesn't really matter which colors you use as long as when they mix they don't make brown like orange and green or purple and yellow. You can also just leave the whole thing clear.

Put the Glue in the Cookie Cutter

Pour about three-quarters of the clear glue into the cookie cutter. Then put the other two colors in any way you'd like. Get creative with it! After that pour the rest of the clear glue into the container. You want the container to be three-quarters of the way full and completely covering the shell. If it's not just add more clear glue. Now you just have to wait for about a week and a half for the glue to completely dry. If you want to be safe wait two weeks and until the glue is no longer squishy.

Take the Glue Out

After you have waited until the glue is completely dry, peel off the tape and the Saran Rap. It is ok if there isn't glue on the underside of the shell. That is where you will put the suction cup on. If there are patterns from the Saran Rap that is ok too because it will look like waves. If some glue got on the cookie-cutter's side, then just peel it off and let it stick off to the side. Now just push in the center of the shell and the sun catcher should just pop right out.

Cut Off the Edges

When the glue dried some of it probably stuck to the inside of the cookie cutter. Now you are just going to cut that part off with some scissors. Only cut the part that is thin enough to cut easily. You also want to use scissors to cut off the rest of the thin glue on the bottom of the shell. If it is not thin enough to cut you can just leave it on.

Get the Suction Cup Ready

To make the suction cup useable for this project you need to take the hook out. To do this you just have to pull it and it should just come right out. Make sure to not pull the hook part through and not the ball part on the top.

Glue on the Suction Cup

Take a hot glue gun and glue the suction cup on the back of the shell. Make sure to glue the small circular part of the suction cup to the shell.

Hang Up Your Project

The last step is to hang up your suncatcher in a nice sunny spot!
