Antique Sewing Machine Frame Chair
I wanted something different from the common frame table.
Starting With Frame
I was given a sewing machine frame, and didn’t want to make a table. It seems everyone makes tables with them.
Remove the Unneeded Parts.
The tub and spindle wheel was removed, I left the pedal base for support. After I spray painted the frame two coats of gloss black.
Installing the Seat
I cut two 1 x 12 inch strips and mounted them to the insides the frame legs to hold the seat along the back and width of the frame I cut 1x 18 strip. For the seat I cut 2 “ x12”x 18 pine and mounted it to the strips.
Fitting the Back and Arms.
I cut 2) pine boards 1 x 3 x 14 strips for the arm rest and added a notch for the back rest board I rounded the front end of the arms with my jigsaw and sanded them afterwords. I used the screw holes in the frame to attach the arms by screwing them from the bottom up. For the back rest I cut 3) 1 x 6 x18
boards I gave the back rest about a 15 % lean. On the back of the back rest I add two 1x 18 strips to help support the back rest. Working from under the seat I screwed the seat to the back rest. The top strip I added to the back side of the back rest with finished nails from front to back and nailed the arm rest from the sides.
Finishing Touches
After stain and clear coat the end result was something new and different.
I AM IN THE FURNITURE CONTEST, I WOULD APPRECIATE A VOTE. I AM TRYING TO GET BETTER AT TAKING PICTURES AND ADDING MORE DETAILS.. THANKS ALL JIMMY
