Sheer Panel Skirt
This is a quick and easy tutorial for a sheer panel skirt.
Supplies
Supplies:
1 yard of a woven fabric 50″-60″ ( If using a 44/45″ you will need 1.5 yards.)
1/2-yard organza (that is as wide as your main fabric.)
coordinating thread
1″ Wide Elastic (no-roll elastic)
Step 1
This skirt will be a finished length of 25″ ( you can make yours to your desired length.)
Fold your main fabric in half with the right sides of the fabric touching (wrong side facing you).
Step 2
Measure down 22.5″ mark and cut across. Then take the left over piece of your main fabric which is still folded in half and measure down 3″ and cut across.
Step 3
Next let’s cut the organza. With the fabric folded in half (Just like our main fabric.) Measure down 4″ and cut across.
Step 4
With your fabric pieces, all cut-out, you should have the following pieces.
Step 5
Open up the largest piece of fabric. The right side facing you take your organza and place it right side down(wrong side facing you) on the bottom edge of your fabric.
Step 6
Sew across using a 1/2″ seam allowance.
Step 7
Finished the seam( with a serger or zig-zag stitch.)
Step 8
Now press the seam upward toward the main fabric.
Step 9
With the right side of your fabric facing you top stitch along the seam allowance (this will keep the seam allowance in place and prevent it from showing through your organza.
Step 10
It will look something like this.
Step 11
Now with the main fabric right side up. Place the last cut piece of fabric right side down along the bottom edge of the organza and sew with a 1/2″ seam allowance.
Step 12
Finish the seam as desired and them press the seam down toward the hem. Top stitch just as we did before to keep the seam allowance hidden and in place.
Step 13
Now fold the skirt in half (right side touching) and sew with a 5/8″ seam allowance. Finish the seam as desired.
The only thing left to do is finish the waistband and hem the skirt. Hem the skirt by folding over 1/2″ and another 1/2″. Press and sew. For the waistband fold over a 1/2″ and then 1 1/4″. Press and sew around leaving a 2 ” opening to insert the elastic through. Once you have your elastic inserted and sewn in place, close the opening and give the skirt a good press for a nice crisp and professional finish.
Finished Look
Your skirt is finished and ready to wear!!!
