Shelving for a Storage Shed

We needed an easier way to access all of our storage bins and maximize the storage capacity of our backyard shed so we decided to build our own shelving.

This is the finished product.

Supplies

This was our shopping list. You will also need basic carpentry tools like a circular saw, hand saw, drill and impact driver.

The cost of this project came to be about $300.

Use the attached Sketchup file if you want to modify the project in any way.

Take measurements as you go to match your site conditions before making any cuts.

This is a view of the underside of the framing so you can see how it came together. We started by building the lower shelf first and then the upper shelf.

It was a little tricky measuring the plywood and cutting out the notches to fit around the 2x4s. I allowed for an β…› to ΒΌ inch of flexibility in those areas so that it would be easy to install. The notches were cut with a hand saw and chisel.

The plywood is secured down with 1-⅝ screws every 6” around the perimeter and into each framing member.

The finished shelving is very stable and will hold plenty of weight.

Enjoy!
