Shiny Stars Night Light
Hey guys, today I made a Shiny Stars Night Light that you can put on your table or in your kid's room and the best thing about it is that it has a lot of shiny stars embedded in it.
I also added a beautiful line in the middle, but that's completely optional. It looks so lovely in darkness. All the stars shines so brightly because all the stars are actually blue LEDs.
You can place this on your, or your kid's bedside and have a peaceful sleep. they are not excessively bright and that makes them a perfect nightlight.
Supplies
You will need,
One black A4 paper and One Blue A4 paper
One white A4 sheet
One cardboard A4 size
Glue
Lots of blue LEDs
Some White LEDs
Wires
6v Battery holder (4 cell)
Some more cardboard
The Tools that you will need-
Pliers
scissors
pencil
scale
soldering iron
glue gun
wire cutter
wire striper
Take Both the Black and Blue A4 Sheets
Take both the blue and black A4 sheets and for now keep the blue sheet away but in reach.
Now with the black sheet. Mark one inch from all sides and then make straight lines forming a border all around the sheet.
Make the Space for the Quote
Now from the bottom left side, mark 10cm up on the left side.
From the bottom right side, mark 20cm up on the right side.
Now mark 10 cm above both of those points.
Join both the lower points of either side together.
Just like that also join both the points on the upper side of either side.
Cut Out
Now take a paper cutter and cut the two shapes above and below our quote area.
Your finished cut out should look like the last picture.
Now Write Your Quote
Now take a pencil and write whatever quote or line you want to write on your night lamp.
I prefer making some lines first and then writing between those lines. Like writing on a ruled notebook. It will look more neat.
Now Cut Out Your Quote
Now cut out all the letter in your quote.
If you cannot cut out all the letter in your quote, because I know it is very hard, and you can still make a lot of mistakes. What I advise you to do is to cut a whole rectangle out and then stick a piece of white paper on it and write your quote on it with a marker such that the whole background is filled with black and the words are white.
That way you can get the same effect but with less effort and mistake.
I was able to cut out every single letter, so I did just that.
Now it's time to get out the blue paper and mark our quote area on it.
Remember, I said the quote area, not the quote. The blue paper is supposed to go behind the black paper. So we need to make sure that the letters in our quote can be illuminated from behind, so for that. We need to cut that area out on the blue paper.
Once you've marked the area, cut it out with a paper cutter.
Glue All of Them Together
The end product should look like the first picture. They are not glued yet. I have just placed them on top of one another to see how they should be glued. You should do the same and check before actually glueing them together.
Once you're sure about the order, glue all of them together.
White stays on the bottom, then blue and on top of everything else the black one.
If you cut out all the letters separately, make sure that you glue all the little things in them.
Cut the Cardboard
Now take the A4 size cardboard and mark our quote area on this as well.
And then cut it out.
Glue Our Paper on the Cardboard
Now take the papers from before and glue them on the cardboard.
Mark Holes for White Led
Now take a cardboard piece to cover the exposed back side of the papers.
On this cardboard mark holes for white LEDs.
Now Insert LEDs
Now make holes on those marked areas and insert White LEDs in them.
Make sure to bend the leads of the leds.
Now Solder All LEDs in Parallel
Now once you've bent the leads of LED glue them in place and solder all of them together in parallel.
Time to Add Our Stars
Once our quote area lights are done now move on to the stars.
Mark holes for the stars on the blue paper area. Once you've marked them, make holes with scissors or something else.
Insert the LED and Glue
Now insert all the LEDs in their place and glue them on the cardboard with some hot glue. Don't forget to bend the leads.
Solder All of the Stars in Parallel
Now solder time.
Solder all the LEDs in parallel. Both the upper and lower sets. Solder them together as well.
Once you're done, tape them to secure them in their place.
Add Support for the Backlight for Quote
Now it's time to add the backlight for our quote. But before that we need to add some support that also adds some distance between our LEDs and our quote so that they illuminate nicely and properly.
take two cardboard strips and glue them on either ide of the quote area as shown in picture.
Now Glue the Backlight
Now glue our backlight on top of our support.
If your cardboard piece is taking up a lot more space than it should, then this is the step when you should cut the excess part.
Now Connect All the Leds Together.
Now, once everything is glued together and all the wires are secured with tape.
Connect all sets of LEDs together.
In my case my stars LEDs required less voltage than the white ones, so I added a 100 ohm resistor in series with them but not with the white ones. You should check that thing as well with whatever LEDs you use.
When done, check the whole circuit with a battery.
Now It's Time to Add the Stand for the Night Light
Now you are supposed to add a stand to the night light.
I made sure to make a stand as well as a housing for the battery. So that it provides support to the structure as well as a housing for the battery.
So it is basically a square box for the battery. Once the housing is done, move on to the next step.
Now Add the Support Piece
Now glue the big support piece in the end. This piece will make sure that our structure does not fall down easily.
Third picture shows a completed housing + stand.
The Battery Connector for the Battery
Now add the battery connector to the battery. And add cells in your battery pack and keep them ready for the next step.
Add a Switch
Now glue the switch in place. It should be a on/off switch.
Solder wires to the switch from the battery connector to the LEDs. and once you're done tape everything to secure the wiring.
And voilĂ , it's ready.
The Finished Project
This looks very beautiful at night. All the stars shines so nicely.
