Shoebox Shelves

This project is perfect for all you thrifty apartment or dorm dwellers out there, looking for cheap and easy storage that's temporary and could even bring out the crafty side in you!

1. Two sturdy shoeboxes
2. Plain white glue or matte Mod Podge
3. Paintbrush
4. Water
5. Paper of your choice (I used a mixture of newspaper and white construction paper)

Tear up your paper into uneven pieces - the more uneven, the better. You want to have a crafty sort of rustic look.

Coat one side of a shoebox with your glue using the paintbrush. You may need to dilute the glue with a tiny bit of water to make it more paint-able and easy to coat.

Start placing your paper bits on the glue-painted shoe box in random order. Don't feel like you have to cover up all of the box for this first layer - you'll be filling in the blanks and layering as the project goes on.

Keep layering the bits of paper with more glue until the entire side of the shoe box is covered. Repeat this technique for all four sides of the box, making sure to wrap some pieces inside the front to cover up whatever color the shoe box originally was.

Let glue dry completely and admire! You can now 'hang' your shelves on the wall - I used basic thumb tacks to secure mine. Obviously you do not want to store heavy items on your shelves. I used my shelves for my many skeins of mercerized cotton, which are light enough for the shelves to hold.
