Silicone Tube Whistle

Any carpenter, renovator, plumber, electrician or Dad that goes to a hardware store should know what a silicone tube is, most will have used one.

I am going to show you how to turn a supposedly useless silicone tube into a great instrument for your kids.

All you need is an empty tube, a shaft (to push out the pusher plug) and a Stanley knife (use for cleaning the plug etc. optional)

Anyway, that is just the inventory, lets see how to make it.

Please, If you go to a hardware store and buy a silicone tube and then empty it JUST for this instructable, take a photo and post it.

Step one, take the plastic label off (optional, do this if you want to paint it), stick the shaft through the hole at the top of the tube (the hole where the silicone comes out) an push.

The aim is to remove the plug that moves the silicone up and out of the tube.

Once you have one that move on to step two.

Step two, clean the plug any way you wish (I let mine dry and cut it off with a Stanley knife, if you are a kid PLEASE get permission and supervision, remember, safety first you only get one chance.).

Step three, clean the hole where the silicone comes out of an make sure there are no sharp edges.

Step four, put the plug back but only a little way, I measured mine on my little finger (see photo) to get the "right tune".

Step five, Paint as you wish.

Step six, If you want you can make a few of these and push the plug up to different intervals, use like a pan pipe. (link opens in new tab)

Once it is done, put into your pack for an emergency whistle!
