2015 Kitchen Utensil Challenge - bottle opener TOM HOWBRIDGE

I enjoyed making this project and it works a treat. Using some oak.

I first clamped a stop block to my router table fence, before routing a recess as shown,

next i clean up the edge with a chisel chopping the round edges square.

Installing Screws

Next I placed a bottle in the recess and marked the scew locations, then I pre drilled and screw two flat head screws in place just touching the shoulder of the recess to give extra strenth when opening bottles.

Sanding and Finishing

I then knocked of a few of the sharp corners with my hand plane and sanded to 400 grit, then I rubbed a Danish oil finish, I think next time I will experiment using different finishings as Danish is not really the right thing for this, but I think it turn out great.
