Microsoft Paint: Simple Picture Modification
Microsoft Paint can be very useful to do simple picture modifications, such as :
- cropping,
- highlighting portions of the picture.
Supplies
- A computer with a Windows operating system (Windows 10, possibly later versions.)
Highlighting Elements
This section is about bordering an element with a colored outline to create a highlight.
The steps are the following:
Choosing the outline color:
- Click to select "Color 1"
- Then, select a color.
Selecting a shape:
- Click to select a shape
- The value for "Outline" needs to be "Solid color",
and the value for "Fill", "No fill".
Cropping a Picture
Selecting a rectangular area to replace the original picture is usually very useful.
The steps are the following:
Zooming out if necessary:
You can access the "Zoom out" feature in the "View" tab.
Cropping the selected area:
In the "Home" tab, clicking on "Select", next to the "Crop" feature, gives access to different selection options.
To crop a rectangular selection:
- Simply click on the rectangle shape above "Select" and leave the default selection options.
- Then, click on "Crop".
Saving the cropped selection:
In the "File" menu, you can find the "Save", and "Save As" options.
If you want to keep the original file, you should use the "Save As" option.
In the "Save As" menu, the PNG format is likely to meet your needs.
