Simple Weave Using a Cricket Loom

The goal of this assignment was to become accustomed to the cricket loom by coming up with different variations of a simple "tabby weave."

I started with a tabby weave, but before I beat weft I pulled out some slack in the yarn to create "loopies."

I incorporated a stripe of conductive thread for possible later use. I found that I had to double up on the conductive thread to be able to see it.

Just for fun, I weaved a spoon into the fabric. It actually holds on pretty well and didn't mess up the following weaves.

I experimented with incorporating two colors at once. I did this by pulling the yarn through the shed all the way and wrapping it around the other color. This allows you pull the other color back through the shed creating the split color look.

this week was the first time we weaved on a proper loom. I found the most challenging aspect was actually setting up the warp before weaving. much like cooking, if you are set up well, with all of the warps evenly tensioned, then actually weaving the weft will be a smooth process. fascinating how the mechanism made it easy to make complicated patterns very quickly. I particularly enjoyed the "loopies" method because of the texture that it created even though it was just a simple tabby weave. I'm curious to see how we can make different patterns and textures with future loom setups.
