Simple, Tasty Vegan Pancakes

intro2.jpg

Does what it says on the tin: simple, tasty vegan pancakes. These pancakes have very few ingredients, are easy to make, and as tasty as a very tasty thing. Even your animal eating friends will enjoy them.

These are Dutch style pancakes, which are thinner and larger than American pancakes; they are generally not seen as a breakfast food, but hey, whatever spins your beanie.

Ingredients

You will need:

  • 1 kilogram of flour
  • 1,5 liters of Apfelschorle or 1 liter of apple juice + 1/2 liter of sparkling water
  • 1 pack of baking powder (15 grams)
  • small teaspoon of salt
  • your favourite frying oil

Tools:

  • mixer
  • one or more frying pans
  • spatula

To elaborate: what I'm calling baking powder is usually a mixture of monocalcium phosphate, sodium bicarbonate and cornstarch.

Mix It Up

Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a big bowl.

Add the apfelschorle or the other liquids gradually while mixing.

Keep mixing until you have a smooth, runny batter.

Heat It Up

Heat up your frying pans and put a few drops of oil in each.

Put a scoop of batter in one of them, and tilt the pan slightly to cover the whole surface of the pan.

Allow the batter to set, and the pancake to turn a nice, golden brown before you flip it.

Stack It Up

Bake your pancakes nice and brown on both sides, and stack them on a plate.

Have your piping hot pancakes with any of the following:

  • banana
  • honey
  • syrup
  • bacon (if you're one of those people)
  • chocolate spread
  • jam
  • jelly

... and whatever else seems good to you.

Enjoy! Eet smakelijk!
