Snowflake Trophy

I designed a snowflake accolade.

Supplies

  1. Any CAD software, preferably Onshape.
  2. Workspace units should be INCHES.

Designing the Base (Part 1)

Create a sketch on the Top Plane and draw a circle. Once you've drawn a circle, set its diameter to ø0.78 inches.

After doing so, exit the sketch and select the Extrude tool, then extrude the circle by .04 inches.

Designing the Base (Part 2)

step6.png

Create another sketch and assign it to the top surface of the circle you've extruded.

Draw another circle on the top surface of the circle and set it's diameter to ø0.663 inches.

Exit the sketch and select the plane tool. Assign the plane to the top plane, and offset it to 0.245 inches.

Create a sketch on the new plane and draw a circle with a diameter of ø0.6 inches

Designing the Base (part 2)

step9.png

Select the loft icon and click the two circles you've made. This will connect the circles and generate a truncated cone.

After the truncated cone has been generated, create another sketch and assign it to the top surface of the cone.

In the sketch, draw a circle and set its diameter to ø0.656 inches.

Exit the sketch and select the Extrude tool, then extrude the circle by 0.045 inches.

That's all for the base!

Designing the Snowflake

step10.png
step11.png
step12.png

Create a sketch on the front plane, then draw a circle with a diameter of 0.75 inches.

Set the distance between the origin of the circle and the origin of the workspace to 0.632 inches.

Create two lines from the circle's origin and connect it to the outer edge of the circle. One is in the middle, the other is (give or take) 45 degrees from the first line you created (we will set their angles in the next step)

Set the angle of the first line and the second line to 30 degrees, and set the third line and the second line to the same value (30 degrees).

Your Snowflake Design

The boundaries (marked in red) are the areas where you draw your snowflake. You can design it to whatever you want.

You should first draw the design on one of the sides, so you can be able to mirror it to the other side, providing symmetry.

Mirroring:

A mirror process requires a mirror axis. In this case, we are going to mirror on the center line of the snowflake design.

Once you've selected the mirror axis, you must select all entities that you want to be mirrored (in this case the snowflake design).

Once you've mirrored, select the circular pattern tool and select the whole snowflake design. If the transform interface is not centered, you are able to drag it to the center of the circle. You will see the count 3x, which should be set to 6x.

Exit the snowflake sketch and select the Extrude tool, then extrude the snowflake by 0.075 inches. You should also check the "Symmetric" option in order to center your snowflake.

Creating the Text (optional)

step17.png

Create a sketch on the circle that the snowflake rests on, and select the Text tool.

Create a textbox and name it anything. In this case, We are naming it "1st Place".

You must set its dimension to 0.442 inches (on the bottom line).

After doing so, select the Extrude tool and click the Remove tab. Set the depth to 0.001 inches.

That's all! You've finished your trophy!

Colors

Now that you've finished your trophy, all you need is color.
