Special FX FAKE BBQ'd Human Fingers ("lady Fingers" for a Zombie Dinner Party)

Some time ago we did a job for a zombie tv show; they asked us to make a heaping serving of BBQ'd "lady fingers" so that a family of zombies could chow down at the dinner table. The requirements were that the fingers looked real, that the "skin" would tear away (like rubbery chicken skin) to reveal knuckle bones and that it would be food safe for the actors. For the life of me I cannot find the process photos but I did stumble across the final product photos, plus the uber dorky video I sent to the art director to show how the fingers worked. I didn't build these; Tina and special fx superstar James VDK took the job on, but I thought I'd show y'all how they turned out.

1.     These are cast from Tina's dainty digits.
2.     Once they had a mold of her fingers, James and Tina shaved away and sculpted them to look like bones.
3.     They then made a mold of the bones and cast them in a beauty salon nail polish acrylic resin.
4.     The bones were inserted into the silicone finger molds and, in essence, acted like popsicle sticks.
5.     The "flesh" for the fingers is made from a tinted, benign silicone, very similar to breast implant silicone.
6.     Fingernails are added by forming them out of rice paper and sticking them on.
7.     The burnt BBQ'd look comes from blackstrap molasses, which they painted on and then scorched with a blow torch.
8.     And that's it! Throw it in a fancy package and send it to set!!
