Spray Paint Easy Modern Artwork
It's a cinch to make modern artwork using simple and affordable supplies. With this technique, you can easily create a series of similar artwork to tie your home decor together. To do this, use just three of the same colors to paint as many canvases as you'd like. Lay strips of tape in random patterns on each canvas to make several unique pieces.
Here's what you'll need:
- Canvas or watercolor paper
- 3 shades of acrylic paint
- Painter's tape
- Preval Sprayers (1 to 3)
- Funnel
- Water
Prepare the Preval Sprayer
Pour 1 ounce of acrylic paint and 3 ounces of water into the Preval Sprayer jar. Cap, shake and attach the spray can. Do a test spray onto scrap paper to avoid splatter on your canvas.
Pattern and Paint
Lay strips of tape across your canvas in a pattern you like. Overlap the tape in random spots to create geometric shapes. Press the tape down along both edges to avoid paint from seeping in where it doesn't belong.
Next, spray up to 2 layers onto your canvas -- or paper -- using sweeping motions.
Enjoy Your Work
Allow the paint to dry completely before carefully peeling back the tape to reveal your artwork. When you're done, hang your canvas, using a picture hanging kit, or simply prop it on a nail.
If you used a large piece of watercolor paper, consider cutting it to fit into a favorite frame. Be sure to cut out an area where the patterns are most interesting.
