Spy Pen Coil Gun
this instuctible will show you how to make 2 different kinds of small compact coil guns
the 1st design you have to take apart and connect it to a charging circuit to recharge the capacitor (for smaller pens)
The 2nd design you only have to connect it to a charge circuit to recharge the capacitor (for larger pens)
Coil Gun Design 1
materials
- a coil from a old outlet timer (the kind that you have to use little plastic things to set the times) i recommend using this kind of coil because its small and professionally wound
- a capacitor from a disposable camera (try to find one thats long and thin enough to fit inside your pen in my case i had to peel the plastic off the capacitor to make it fit)
- a pen (the kind that look fancy but are all plastic)
- a capacitor charging circuit (not show in this instructible but heres a link to one https://www.instructables.com/id/Capacitor-Charger/... )
- a soldering iron with solder (and some experience using one)
- heat shrink (i didn't have any so i used tape but heat shrink would be better)
- hot glue gun (not 100% necessary you could use tap)
Step 1
Take apart your pen and get rid of all the ink spring (if its a click pen)
Step 2
Hot glue your coil to the inside tip of you pen
Step 3
Hot glue the capacitor to the pen button if its a click pen if its not make a hole in the top of then pen and cut the ink just long enough to push the capacitor
Step 4
Put the pen case back together (in my case it screws together)
Step 5
it should fit nicely together, and when you push the button or bit of ink tube on the top of the pen it should make contact with the leads of the coil
Step 6
To charge the capacitor just take apart your pen case (in my case it unscrews) and attach the capacitor to your charging circuit when its done charging (about 10 seconds) put it back in your pen case and screw it back together
Step 7 to fire it all you have to do if cut a piece of paper clip about 1/4" and put it in the coil tube then press the button or ink tube on top

Step 2
Hot glue your coil to the inside tip of you pen
Step 3
Attach 2 wires to each of the capacitors leads
Step 4
Attach 1 of the wires from the capacitor to the coil
Step 5
Attach the other wire on the other polarity to the button
Step 6
attach a wire to the other lead of the coil
Step 7
Attach the wire from the coil to the button
Step 8
Put the button threw the hole on the top of the pen if its a click pen if its not make a hole on the top then put the button threw it
Step 9
Hot glue the button in place
Step 10
Hot glue the capacitor in the top of the pen (if it doesn't fit use magnet wire for the button or try peeling the plastic off the capacitor)
Step 11
Make a hole in the pen
Step 12
put the 2 Extra wires attached to the capacitor threw the hold
Step 13
Put the pen back together
Step 14
To charge the capacitor attach the 2 wires sticking out the hold to your charging circuit wait 10 seconds
Step 15
Disconnect the wires from the charging circuit
Step 16
Cut a pice Of paper clip about 1/4" long
Step 17
Put it in the coil tube and press the button
Side Notes
this is my 1st instructible so i would really like if you take a minute to leave a comment about what i could have done differently
I am sorry if there wasn't enough pictures i could only take 2 because i had to use my phone camera and they don't look that good
I got my pen coil gun to shoot about 20' if you make one please tell me how far it went, i would like to know
This coil gun isn't meant to be used a lot its just something cool to show your friends or to be sneaky with your paper clip shooting
