Square Instagram Frame

Hot glue children's building blocks to make an easy frame for your Instagram photos!

The retail stores haven’t keep up well with trends in the online world. Go to any retail store, and you will find a large selection of the old standard size photo frames: 3x5 inches, and 4x6 inches. These frames were designed to hold the rectangular photos which were printed from 35mm film, and older digital cameras. With the increased popularity of Instagram, photos cropped to be square, instead of rectangular, have become more common. Blog pictures and website badges are often square, too. Yet, it is still difficult to find a small square frame. In today’s blog we will be making a very easy small square frame.

Supplies needed:

· Small children’s building blocks. We are using blocks from the classic Jenga game.

· Hot glue gun with glue sticks, and white liquid glue.

· A cereal or cracker box. Poster board could also be used.

· Paint or embellishments (optional).

Use a hot glue gun to assemble your frame in the pattern shown in photo.

Use liquid white glue to glue the “U” piece to the back of your wood frame. Add glue to the three un-notched sides of the second backing piece, and glue to the “U” piece. The notch will be at the top of “U”. Put a heavy weight on the frame until the glue has dried.

Slide a photo into your frame! The photo size should be 2 ¼ inches square. The photo viewing window size will be 2 inches square. The design of the frame makes it easy to change photos frequently.

I think my frames are beautiful as a natural wood. If you prefer, paint or embellish your frames. My frames are “sitting pretty” on an IKEA coat rack. The narrow ledge is the perfect size for these tiny frames. Add photos of each family member to the frames to indicate who uses each coat hook. If you prefer to hang your frames on a wall, just nail a wall hanger bracket to the back.
