How to Fold an Origami Battle Droid From Star Wars
I’m new to Instructables, and this is my first origami design that I’ve published. I did some research on the internet and found out that there isn’t any easily attainable battle droid designs that I could find, so I came up with one myself. The character I’m portraying is in episode I through III of the Star Wars movies. Skill Level: Intermediate
Start with a square piece of paper, no smaller than 8” by 8”. Collapse along the creases, forming a square base.
Fold the top corners inward to the center crease.
Fold down the tip, crease well.
Unfold.
The 3 creases we've made in the previous steps will help us make the petal fold. Lift the bottom corner upwards, and fold along the crease lines and flatten to form a triangle.
Repeat steps 2-5 on the reverse side.
Fold down both upper triangles.
Now you have a petal fold! Lift back up just the top flap. A bit tedious, but need to make sure reverse flap stays down.
Fold in half. Rotate 90°.
Outside reverse fold.
Outside reverse fold the head.
Reverse fold the nose and arms.
Fold down the side flap to form a leg. Repeat behind.
Fold the leg to the side. Repeat behind.
Reverse fold to form the feet and fold down the tip. Then fold the top part of the leg inward. Repeat behind.
This is what the foot should look like.
Almost there. Now comes the tricky part.
Fold up a portion of the “tail” (this will become the droid’s backpack) flush with the top. Repeat behind.
Try to pull the “tail” up almost flush with the back of the head.
As you can see, tucking in a portion of the “tail” helps get it this way.
There! Now reverse fold the tip of the completed “backpack”.
Finished. Create more to build your own droid army!
