Stink Bug Death Trap

Brown marmorated stink bugs invade buildings from September through June and hide in drawers, curtains, shoes, on windows and lights, emitting a terrible odor if crushed. Flushing them wastes water, pesticides don't work, vacuuming just stinks up the house, and if you put them outside they find their way back in. So what to do with stink bugs?  Make a death trap!

Materials

an empty paper drink cup with lid * some tape (any kind will work) * a razor blade or sharp knife * water * piece of kleenex (paper towel, or toilet tissue - whatever is handy)

Make an Opening

Mark the center of the lid with an X. Being very careful not to cut yourself or the table, slice through the X with a razor or sharp knife.

Add Water

Pour 1 inch of water into cup

Seal

Secure the lid onto the cup and tape around the edges so the lid cannot accidentally come off if the cup tips over.  Taping is also useful in case someone decides to take a sip of your 'beverage'.

Dispose

Use a piece of tissue or other paper product to pick up the bugs.  No need to squeeze, just gently wrap it up and insert the tissue into the top of the cup. VoilĂ ! The bug will drown and no odor will escape from the disposal.

When the cup is full, empty the contents in the trash and begin anew. A disposal in every room is useful when they are most active during spring and fall.
