String Rings! (Super Easy)

If you are bored and have some string and glue at home, why not make some rings?

They are so easy to make that it can be a fun activity for kids, but anyone can enjoy making these :)

You can go for a leathery look or even get close to a fake metal effect.. or make them colorful and blingy - completely up to you!

• string / yarn
• a round object (the size of your finger)
• clingfilm or tape
• scissors
• white glue
• acrylic paint

Optional:

• nail polish
• rhinestones

First, you need to find an object that's the size of your finger. I found some nail polish bottles that worked for me. You can test the size with a ring that you already have.

Cover the object with clingfilm or tape.

You can try out different kinds of string / yarn. See what you have at home and try it out!

If you want, you can also braid your string and add that to your ring for a different effect.

Take a good amount of string and coat it in glue with your fingers before you wind it around your object.

You can either wind it around in a neat fashion or in a more messy "freestyle" way.

When you're happy with it, cut off the excess and add more glue with a brush to the whole ring. You want enough glue to soak into the string, but not so much that it looks messy.

Let that dry and gently pull it off - and you got yourself a ring! It's flexible but holds its shape - the more string and glue/paint you add, the stiffer it gets.

I like to paint the rings with acrylic paints. There is no limit to the possibilities!

For kind of metallic looking rings, I start off with black paint and dry brush metallic colors on.

You can also add nail polish for some extra shine or other effects.

The neatly coiled ring is a great base for rhinestones and more. I used superglue to add a rhinestone.
