Super Easy Survival CD Grinder (Minecraft PC)
Hello everyone, and welcome to my first ever instructable! Today I will be showing you how to create a super easy, effective, and low resource way to get CDs in Minecraft. I've been informed that CDs do not exist in minecraft PE, so this only works on the computer version of Minecraft, which at the time of publishing this tutorial is on 1.7.9.
After scouring the internet, I found no good tutorials for newbs like me to easily get CDs for my jukebox. Well, here is the solution I came up with: The Run-A-Way CD-o-matic (c).
Materials:
Building block (64) *
Ladders (4)
Trap doors (4)
Buckets of Water (2) **
*Dirt may not be pretty, but it works well and is easy to find.
**You can use the same bucket twice
Optional:
Shovels
Signs
Item Frames
Starting Your Trap
First thing you need to do is find the right place for your trap. You will need a large, flat area, so plains are best suited for this build. (I created a superflat world for this build). Now, Dig a 1x2x3 hole and cover with trap doors. Easy, right?
Run-A-Way Shelter
Now time to build the run-a-way shelter. I like to make it at least 4 blocks long, but you can probably make it shorter or longer if you want. I am using iron in this tutorial because it is easier to count the blocks, but dirt or any other block works just fine. (except sand or gravel)
You can save resources by leaving out 'corner' blocks as seen in the last few pictures.
Creeper Water Tunnel
Hop into the hole and dig 7 blocks forward, away from the opening of the trap. The tunnel should be a total of 9 blocks long. Place water at the beginning of the tunnel. There should be one empty block at the end of the stream.
The 'Mechanism'
this is the 'tricky' part. dig two to both sides of the tunnel, forming a "T". At the tips of these two side tunnels, dig one down. Place a block on both sides of the top of the main tunnel, so that there is an empty block by your feet on both sides when you stand in the main tunnel. This is where the creepers will be kept.
The empty cells you just created will be the collection chamber and the skeleton trap.
The Skeleton Trap
Choose one of the cells you just created, it doesn't matter which, and dig 8 blocks in the opposite direction as your first trap. At the end of this tunnel, dig to the surface to make a 1x2 pit. Pillar jump to the top and destroy the dirt you laid down, and place water at the end of it. this will be the exact same trapdoor set-up as the creeper one.
Build the same building as you did in step two, but at the end of the runaway shelter, add a culvert on either side to dodge arrows while luring in your skeleton.
Collection Pit and Finishing Touches
Go ahead and jump in into the creeper trap once more. Dig to the other side, and make a hole going straight up. Add some ladders to get out of the hole. This is your collection area. Label each area to make sure you don't lead creepers to your skeleton trap and make a mess of the system.
wbaca suggests: "work a presser plate and redstone to open the trap doors just in case you're not fast enough to activate them yourself". Thanks wbaca!
I myself am horrible with redstone contraptions. However I will be experimenting over the next few weeks and see what I can come up with. If you have any suggestions on rigging, please feel free to let me know in the comments.
Congratulations you are done!
Using Your Trap
This may be a bit tricky, but you need to use yourself as bait! Before you head out, make sure the trap doors are closed. Make a skeleton or creeper follow you and lead it to the appropriate trap. As you run in, open the traps behind you. Start with the skeleton, since that is the hardest part. Their arrows and intellect makes it harder to get them to fall into the pit, so they may need a little coaxing (fishing poles work well). Luckily, once you catch a skeleton, you never need to do it again unless you accidentally destroy the block above it (burning it in the sun) or go too far away (and it de-spawns.) Now go ahead and collect some creepers!
When you jump into the collection chamber, the skeleton will shoot at you, but instead hit the creepers. It may take a while, but once the creeper is dead, You'll have a shiny new CD to show off to the world.
