I have a dedicated drawer for all of my cables and since I did not have any specific organization system, they are almost always tangled and I can't find what I need.

To solve this problem, I kept the center cores from the toilet paper that we've used for a while now and I used them to create a system that works really well and I can now instantly find what I'm looking for.

Even though I had plenty of toilet roll cores, I ended up not having enough to cover the entire drawer so if you plan to replicate this project, prepare more rolls than you think that you will need.

Clean Up the Drawer

To be able to work inside the drawer, I first had to empty it out and the easiest way for me was to put all of the cables inside a plastic bag.

You can take the route to organize your cables at this stage, but I decided to skip that step for now and just start making the organizer.

Once the drawer was empty, I took the time to properly clean it so I can have it ready for when I return the cables.

Glue the Toilet Rolls in Rows

Not all of my toilet roll cores were the same so I first grouped them by size and started gluing them using hot glue.

To make sure that they were all on the same plane, I used my desk as a reference point where I would first apply some glue to the roll, align it with the previous ones and stick them together.

Depending on the size of the rolls and the size of your drawer, you will need to glue a different number of rolls so they fit inside the drawer. In my case, I was able to fit 8 from the larger ones and 10 from the smaller ones in a single row.

Once I completed a row, I was putting it aside to dry and I continued with the next one until I ran out of rolls.

Glue the Rows Together

With all of the rows ready, I placed one of them in the drawer and I laid the next one on its side to add glue to the rolls.

With the glue applied to all of the rolls, I then flipped the row upright and then pressed it to the previous one so they become one unit.

Since the dimensions of the rows matched the drawer perfectly, it was very easy to use the drawer as a guide and glue all of the rows together.

Keep in mind that I did not glue any of the rolls to the drawer but only to themselves. Once the cables are returned, they will provide some friction and weight to the rolls so they will not come up when you take cables but stay in place.

Fold and Organize the Cables

With the organizer ready, I started returning the cables, one by one and I was figuring the placement as I went. The general rule was that I placed the cables that I use most often closer to me and the others on the far side.

To visually see the type of cable inside each of the dividers, when folding, I first joined the two connectors to one side and then folded the rest of the cable roughly to the length of my palm.

When folded like this, the cable is placed inside the roll with both of the connectors facing up and it instantly visible what is inside each of the rolls.

Once I returned all of the cables back to the drawer, even though it wasn't filled with rolls entirely I ended up with room to spare and I am now able to glaze over it and immediately find what I need.

As I use it with time I'll see how it works and I might provide a follow-up on my YouTube channel so be sure to subscribe for that. I also have a lot more Instructables that you can check out.
