Super Simple Sugar Roses

DSC00856.JPG
These Sugar Roses are very simple and easy to make. With a few ingredients and perfect mix you can make these delightful Roses in no time and keep sucking them whenever you like! Add your favorite colorings and flavorings to create a personal touch and style.

I accidently discovered this recipe while trying to make caramel. These Rosebuds are nothing like caramel. They have glucose like taste like the glucose-candies available in market. Here in Pakistan, we have glucose-dolls that we were addicted to when we were kids.

Hope you like them too! :p

First, pour all these ingredients in a saucepan; sugar, water, vanilla essence and color.

Put the saucepan on stove on slow flame.

Start cooking the mixture, keep stirring and mixing the ingredients until sugar dissolves completely.

Do not let it boil until the sugar melts to form a syrup.

When sugar melts, let the syrup boil but  do not increase the flame.

When it boils, the water will start to evaporate.

Start checking the mixture that it is done cooking or not, by filling the spoon with it and dropping in the saucepan.

When the syrup/mixture starts to hold on to spoon or you can say, sticking to the spoon, then it is done.

Take it off from stove.

When you have taken saucepan off the stove, place it onto kitchen counter.

The syrup will have honey-like consistency and clear texture.

Start stirring the syrup with the same spoon you have cooked.

Gradually it will lose its clear texture and become slightly milky.

It will start to thicken also.

Keep stirring it until its soft to touch but not too soft. It will be like dough.

Let it cool slightly (about 2 - 3 mins) before handling to prevent your hands from burning.

Collect all the mixture on spoon.

Then it will be ready to make Roses/Rosebuds.

Take quarter of the dough in your hand, knead to make it smooth.

Roll it into a snake.

Press the snake to flatten it.

Place one end of stick on one end of dough strip.

Start rolling the strip from the stick side to form a Rose bud.

Repeat the same procedure for the remaining dough.

Do it quickly otherwise the dough will start to dry up.

Keep the Rose bud sticks in a jar or glass and let them air-dry for 4 to 5 hours or more to dry hard.

Enjoy your Candy Rosebuds!

Make these in different colors and flavors! Make a lot of them for a Birthday party or any other occasion to surprise your guests!

Believe me, they will be delighted! :)

*Some Handy Tips

Do not overcook the mixture or it will dry quickly when you beat it and then dough will crumble. Hence roses cannot be made.

If you less-cook/boil the mixture, then dough will be too soft and keep falling off the stick. Then roses will not be made too!

After a few tries, you will know the perfect timings and mixture's texture.

As they say, "Practice makes a man perfect!" :p
