Sweet Potato Jerky
Dogs love this wholesome and chewy treat.
One ingredient and no chemicals or preservatives
Easy to make in three different ways
Lets get started!
Select Your Potato
For larger dogs, I like the Sweet Potato to be as large as possible.
Wash to insure there is no mold.
Slice the Sweet Potato
Carefully cut the Sweet Potato length wise.
Make Thick Slices
The Sweet Potato will shrink during dehydration. Cut them about 1/4 thick
Place on Tray
Evenly space on a tray
Method One Is Solar Dehydration
Place in the sun
Takes about a day this way. Turn over every few hours.
Bring inside as the day cools. The evening may bring dampness.
Method Two Is Baking in the Oven
Bake at 225 F for 3-4 hours
Method Three Is With a Dehydrator
155 F for 6-8 hours
You Are Done?
Time will be different depending on the weather ( solar) and the thickness of the slice.
Don't stop until the jerky is a bit hard to bend.
Keep in a jar or sealed baggy to keep them from regaining moisture.
A desiccant packet is a plus
Toss to your pet for a treat that will keep them busy.
