Tactile Tic-Tac-Toe
Use this instructable to learn how to create Tactile Tic-Tac-toe, a game that is playable by the visually impaired.
Supplies
In order to make Tactile Tic-Tac-Toe, you will need:
-A computer with hardware that can run fusion 360
-A 3D printer to print your fusion creation
-A pencil and paper for brainstorming and keeping track of progress (optional)
Begin Creating a Sketch of the Game Board in Fusion
Open a new project in fusion, then click the create sketch button on the top left.
Create Sketches for the "pockets" on the Gameboard
Create the sketches for 9 pockets total, and arrange them in a 3x3 fashion for the next step. Each pocket should have even spacing between each other.
The purpose of these pockets is so that game pieces can fit into them.
You should be creating the sketches for the pockets in fusion, the image above is just a visual representation that I drew on paper.
Create Sketches for the Perimeter and Filler Material of the Board
The perimeter and the filler material will hold the 9 pockets of the board together. This image is a hand drawn visual representation of what your project should look like on fusion so far.
Add Tactile Guides to the Board
- Add bumps to the perimeter of the board (this is not braille)
- Add "X"s to each corner of the board
- The Xs and cylindrical bumps serve as tactile guides for the visually impaired
This image is a hand drawn visual representation of what your project should look like on fusion so far.
Create the Sketches for the Player 1 and 2 Pieces' in Fusion

Extrude the Sketches for the Player 1 and 2 Pieces
Click the blue rectangular prism icon which has a pointing upwards right next to it. This is the extrude button on fusion. After clicking the icon, select both player pieces in order to extrude them. This will make your sketch a printable 3D object.
Extrude the Game Board
Now extrude the game board sketch. Read over step 6, which demonstrates the extrusion of objects in fusion.
Make Copies of Each Piece in Fusion
It is important to make copies of the game pieces, to make sure there is enough for each player.
In order to make a copy, find the "bodies" for each game piece you have created in fusion. Then, keep pasting copies of the body until you have at least five of each game piece total. You may make as many game pieces as you want.
Print Your Creation & Enjoy
Find a buddy and 1 vs 1 them on Tic-Tac-Toe!
In order to play Tactile Tic-Tac-Toe decided who gets to be X and who gets to be O. This can be done at your own discretion. Xs go first. Once the X player goes, it is the O player's turn. On each turn, the player should put a piece into one of the squares on the board, regardless of whether they have X or O pieces. The turns will keep alternating and last until someone wins the game.
