Textured Grid Art - Crafting Wool Patterns on Frames

1. The most important work in creating this art is this - graph plotting.
2. Figure out the design on the graph.
3. Mark each box as a pixel and fill the grids.

1. You can use a ready-made empty photo frame, or take some old photo frame.
2. Here I made a frame from my leftover door cornice.
3. I used a miter box too cut the cornice in 45 degrees and super-glued all the edges.

1. Here I am making a 60 X 60 grid design. So at first I am about to tie 60 white strings across.
2. The strings will go round and over the frame from outside, making a circle.

1. Before creating coloured pixels, we need to create equal spacing throughout.
2. So had to start binding the double layered strings into a single layer.

1. Once the first layer of yarn is complete, switch to a different color of yarn to add the cross pattern.
2. Follow the same process but in the opposite direction (e.g., horizontal if your first layer was vertical) to create a grid effect.

1. Continue the over-under pattern across the width of the frame. As you reach the end of each row, secure the yarn at the frame edge, then move on to the next row.
2. Alternate the starting point in each row (e.g., if you started the last row with “over,” start the next row with “under”) to create a checkerboard effect.
3. With every pass, mark the graph with dots. 'Over's' are red, and 'under's' are white.

1. Once you’re satisfied with the design, secure the ends of each thread color by tying or taping them to the back of the frame
2. Adjust any thread that may have shifted during weaving. Gently push rows closer together for a tighter look or space them apart for a more open design.
3. Trim any excess thread, and check the front for any loose strands or uneven tension.
