The Flying Balloon Blimp

Hi there! We are gonna show you how to make this project we have. It is basically a balloon with decorations. So, let's start making it !

There are some things you'll need to make the flying balloon blimp:

- 1 pair of scissors or a cutter knife

- 1 hot glue gun

- 1 piece of foam or cardboard (foam is lighter than cardboard of course :])

- 1 balloon (a thick and big one is recommended)

- A pencil/pen/marker

- A ruler

- Some paint (for decoration)

Take out your foam or cardboard and then copy the photo :]]] The size of that part depends on how big your balloon is. If you're using the cardboard, we recommend making it a little smaller because cardboard is quite heavy (which will be a disavantage when you fly it) Ours was 14x6cm

Cut it out and you've gone half of the way ! >.<

Well.. It's very easy to do. First, take out the part that you've just made . Next, put it on the other piece of foam or cardboard, use you pen to trace around it that and then cut it out. Tadaaa ! You've finished the third step in less than a minute !

Now draw a retangle with a circle in the middle. Once again, the size of the retangle depends on the size of your balloon. Ours was 15 x 6 cm. Make sure the hole is big enough to hold the nozzle of the balloon in place.

Once you have all of your pieces cut out, paint them with whatever color you like (or just leave it colorless). You can also add on little wings on the side of the body, if you want.

Now it's time to assemble the pieces together. First, you pump your balloon to whatever size that you want and try to hold it like that by temporarily tying the nozzle, but make sure you can still release it later. Then, with a glue gun, stick the pieces together as shown on the picture. (We apologize for the low photo quality)

Now to test "fly" your blimp (it is rather gliding and falling with style than flying). There is a 20% chance it will somehow fail, depending on how heavy your cardboard is.Our prototype actually worked quite well. It might not fly a long distance, but it is still an easy project (especially with small children) and it only takes less than 15 minutes to do. Believe me, the Flying balloon Blimp is worth a try . >.<
