The Hoop Switch

IMG_0880.png

So I wanted to make a one hour simple Rube Goldberg machine(kind of). Therefore I started thinking and this is what got. I created a simple Rube Goldberg machine(kind of) that should fit to your light switch and if you have good enough aim, you might even get it in and turn off your light. Or optionally you could just slam dunk it if you want. This is super simple that if you have your own 3d printer and something for a 🏀 you can make one too. If you make it first shot tell me because I would like to hear how many shots it took just to turn off your light switch.

DISCLAIMER- I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY HOLES YOU PUT INTO YOUR WALL IF YOU DECIDE THAT THROWING A MARBLE WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA

Supplies

  1. 3d printer
  2. Computer
  3. Slicer program
  4. Small ball to use for a basketball (I would look for something not too light like a bouncy ball)
  5. Super glue
  6. Tape (you probably won’t need it)
  7. Screwdriver

Print Your Pieces

For my pieces I used my Bambu Labs to print them out. You will want to keep the size of the objects because if you scale it up, it will not fit on your light switch. You would probably want to have a higher infill for the hoop but for the rest of them it does not require anything special.

Assembly Required

Now since you have your pieces, you can start to assemble your Hoop Switch (I really need a better name for it the more I think about it). So to begin you will want to get your switch connector piece and that should fit nicely onto the light switch, if it is not snug then wrap the light switch with some tape and I find that to work really well and it not be permanent. Next you will want to unscrew the top screw of your light switch and screw it back in through the backboard and that how it will stay up. Next you will need to get your hoop piece and your superglue to glue it into the backboard. Then you’re done! Find some things to shoot into it and see how many times it takes to turn off your light.

Conclusion

If you make this or not it is completely for you to decide. If you like basketball and you are too lazy to walk to the light switch and turn it off (and for some reason have multiple things to throw into it beside you) , then this would be the perfect thing for you. You found turn this into a game and have fun with friends! Or simply you could enjoy it as a bit of decoration for your room! So if this is not a silly enough solution for you then I don’t know what is then.

PS- (If enough people are interested, I might create version two that has a completely new light switch cover with it for you)
