The Infinity Gauntlet.

Hello, here is my life size replica of The MCU's Infinity Gauntlet made of EVA foam.

I tried to capture all the details, from the smallest to the most remarkable, I hope you like it, so let's get started.

The Infinity Gauntlet is a space McGuffin and one of the most powerful objects in the MARVEL Universe. It was designed to hold six of the soul gems, better known as the Infinity stones. When used in combination their already impressive powers make the wearer able to do anything they want.

In the movies is forged by the Dwarf King Eitri in Niðavellir for the mad titan THANOS

In the marvel cinematic universe Niðavellir is a neutron star and one of the Nine Realms, orbited by a multi-ringed megastructure which served as the homeworld of the Dwarves.

Here is one of the most exact recreations of the gauntlet from the hot toys brand, as you can see that is a 360-degree reference to our project, so we will take it into account for every detail to be made

For this great project we will use various tools and a huge amount of materials. but perhaps what we spend the most is time, due to its details.

To finish this project it took me approximately more than 4 month, obviously with breaks due to my work.
I hope that if you undertake this path it will take less time and enjoy this magnificent collector's item as I do.

but hey, let's start with the most important and it is what we will use the most during the development of this prop.

The most important thing will be the eva foam, we will use eva foam of various calibers, mostly 10mm, 6mm and 2mm. then we will use a lot of contact cement.
Also to give it some spectaular finishes we will use a motor tool, in my case I use the dremel 4300 and mostly its sanding bands in diferent calibers.

We must not forget our reliable heat gun which will give us surfaces and heart attack curves in our eva foam.

As we will always print our templates, it is advisable to work part by part, so as not to end up in a chaos of parts since, as I mentioned before, the details are many and there are many tiny parts.

my files have some flaws that due to lack of time I couldn't edit on the computer, so why not get your hands dirty in the field of crafting?

What we will do is cut the small joints where there are gaps and with the help of tape we will glue them, that will be the mold that we will pass to our EVA foam with the help of chalk or a special white marker for this type of material, I do not have one so I'll use chalk

The first thing will be to take all the parts of our glove and cut them as indicated above, it is best to go part by part, first we will make the part of the forearm, then the wrist, the fingers and we will finish with the details, after that we will proceed to paint and then move on to the final part that will be the development of lighting

Some pieces will have curved shapes, for which we will use the heat gun to give the respective shape to our pieces, in the part of the forearm we can see how the succession of parts when joined creates the shape of a cone, which without heat would be impossible to achieve.

in this as in other parts we use the gun to give them their respective curvatures.

After having the pieces cut and prepared with enough heat to generate the curvatures, it is time to join them to form the cone of the forearm.

I recommend using 10mm foam for the base and hand while 6mm for the fingers and details in gauges less than 4

Remember to use a fine-cut scalpel for better finishes.
Some parts will require a good bevel cut so I highly recommend keeping your blades sharp.

As you can see in the image with the help of the dremel we can soften any roughness of the cut. the tool's sanding belt is excellent for bevel finishes.

In the design there are some complicated pieces which will need bevels and use of dremel in different directions so be careful with the inclinations and cuts, look at the images to come out undefeated

Here you can see the difference between two pieces, one stylized with the heat gun and the other unprocessed,
I highly recommend using a heat gun, or maybe a blow dryer might work but I can't secure it with the 10mm foam.

Use cylindrical or round shapes for those complicated pieces, apply a little heat, and then squeeze it against the object you want to shape.

For the thumb we will make the indicated pieces and to simulate the Hauberk part that is in the joints of the gauntlet we will use a fabric with a similar texture.

first use the tape to obtain a mold of the respective piece
then apply the glue, let it dry and cover the thumb.

We will create an internal hand that will serve as a base to glue the pieces of the fingers and also will serve as a tool to give movement from our hand with a string system.

check the parts where it is marked to put the glue and the respective phalanges of the gauntlet.

The rope system is quite basic, first we place some tubes that will serve as rails for the rope after this and according to the union later we will make the resective knots, if you have some springs will be better for the motion.

use the screw to act as a stop, tying the rope to it´shead

reinforce the joints with hot glue.

now comes the most complicated part, those small details, we will use the template to copy them perfectly, have a lot of patience at this point.

use the X-Acto with the best possible cut quality.

Paste the details calmly, or you could create chaos, touch up the missing pieces and if you need to make circular holes the hole punch will be your best ally
the resulting pieces from the smallest hole punch will serve as glove screws or small round details.

To give color and life to our gauntlet, we will first seal the eva foam, we always have to seal our material due to its absorbent porosity, for that we will use the matte black rubber coating of the plasti dip brand.

We will apply 4 layers of plasti dip in very minimal but noticeable quantities, we will let it dry for 6 to 8 hours between each layer for a better primer of the coating. after that you can use the paint you want in my case I chose metallic gold acrylic paint.

use different shades to give it more contrast.

Keep in mind that there will be parts where it will not be painted since they are points of glue or contact.

In the MARVEL Universe The Infinity Stones were six immensely powerful gem-like objects tied to different aspects of the universe, created by the Big Bang.

Only beings of immense power can directly wield the Stones, such as Celestials, and the Mad Titan Thanos

When Thanos successfully collected all of them in The Infinity War Movie, he used their phenomenal powers to annihilate half of all living creatures in the universe. He later used the stones' power to reduce them to atoms, as to prevent his work from being undone and to keep himself or anyone else from abusing their power.

now is time to create, paint and give it life to our stones.

To make the infinity stones we will use aluminum foil and normal clay, combined with the use of and the glue gun.

First we will make an aluminum ball approximately the size of each of the stones, for that we will use the references of the gauntlet.

then we will take some clay and sink our aluminum ball there.
creating a hole with the texture of our aluminium ball.

now use the hot glue and fill the resulting void in the clay.

let the glue dry a bit at room temperature for a good period until the glue solidifies again,
remove it from the mold and wipe off any excess clay.

Be sure to take exact measurements before creating the aluminum balls to avoid errors and material waste.

you can use the help of a caliper if you like or a normal ruler can do the trick.

There are six Infinity Stones: and each one has different abilities, powers and characteristics such as its shapes and colors.

These are: the space stone (blue), the reality stone (red), the power stone (purple), the mind stone (yellow), the time stone (green) and the soul stone (orange).

In a first attempt to obtain the colors I decided on markers, but the colors were not what I expected so I decided on another method that would show translucency in case lighting was applied...

soooo to paint the stones we gonna use stained glass paint.
and we will use each of the colors mentioned in the characteristics, do not forget to be guided by the references.

use a thin brush with which you can gently spread the paint

To give movement to the fingers of the glove with our fingers we will use a system of strings based on the tension we will stick the rings to our quanta at an ideal distance to generate tension, as soon as we tighten the fist the strings will react to that tension by pulling the fingers.

since the thumb is static, it is not necessary to put tension on it.

I think I mistook the iconic phrase, just kidding.

But seriously, it is time to put our pieces together, since it will have circuits, the best thing is to make the glove detachable, for that we will use the velcro. to make temporary joints, since the situation may arise where a led is damaged, it is easy to repair without destroying the structure of the Gauntlet.

put velcro on both sides, on the inside of the cone and on the back of the inner hand

use enough to form a strong bond.

We would recognize the glove wherever we go and we know that the stones shine by their power, so we will do a small basic circuit to give ours shine.

You will need 2 battery holders 1 x2 batteries for the time stone since it will be independent of the others as our gauntlet is removable, and another of 4 batteries to support the rest of the stones.

We will use switches to turn it on and off according to our need in cosplay events or dark places or if you just want to keep it on all the time, just don't alter reality.

We will remove the tape from the places where there is contact, then we will cover with velcro, to join the wrist and the hand with the forearm.

We will locate the specific places where our wiring must pass, and we will make some holes where our LEDs will come out to illuminate the stones.

Be careful when soldering, I personally add some hot glue after soldering to keep the electricity contacts separate.

Add a basic switch to control lighting on and off, remember that you have to place switches in each part of the gauntlet and for each battery holder in this case 2 switches.

then stick the battery holders inside the gauntlet and activate them.
