The John Deere Carved Clock With Aspire 9.5
In this instructable, I will show you how I design a John Deere wall clock that I will cut out with my home-built CNC router.
Logo Tracing
First I open up the Aspire 9.5 and set up the job. That easily can be changed later as well.
Next, I have pasted in a vector image of a John Deere logo, using the Trace Bitmap tool in aspire created a bitmap from the logo and deleted the vector image so I have left of with the bitmap.
Clock Face
As I making a clock design I have to add some clock face, I added a vector of a clock then by using the Trace Bitmap tool I traced the numbers. I only want to have visible the 12,3,6 and 9 on the clock so I position them in the workplace and deleted the rest. Looks good just needed to resize everything together.
Font
Next, I changed the font of the John Deere and personalized it with a family name by using the Create text tool.
Outside Cut
I added an extra profile to the outside using the Offset tool with a 45mm offset.
Shaft
One more thing left to add to this side of the clock is a center hole for the shaft of the clock mechanism, and for that, I used the Draw Circle tool and created an 8mm circle, and aligned it to the center with the Alignment tool.
Back Side
For the backside, I need to add a cut-in for the clock mechanism, so that I measured it, it is a 64*64mm square. I decided to make it slightly bigger, just for better fitting, and made it 68*68mm square, using the Draw a Square tool and positioned it to the center with the Alignment tool.
Now I was happy with the design, I had to set up the toolpaths
Setting Up Each Cuts
One more time I went back to the Job setup screen and changed my material thickness to 25mm as that would be the thickness of my timber.
V Carve
I then opened up my toolpath to choose a V-carve toolpath, first I highlighted everything I wish to carve, then I set up my tool. For this carving, I would use the 90 degrees 12mm Vbits, I would only want to carve 3mm deep all looks good, just hit the Create button and my toolpath is created.
Shaft
Next, is for the shaft, so I used the profile cut with a 6mm endmill bit. this is also from the face side and the depth only needs to be about 9 mm but I left it 11mm on the setup just to make sure it goes through then hit Create.
I made a pocket toolpath to cut the square, that I have in the backside for the mechanism I will need to flip the timber on the machine. The setup on this slightly different as I don't want it to cut all the way through, so I left the depths for the cut to 19mm as that is the thickness of the mechanism. Hit the Create
Profile Cut for Outside
The last cut is the profile cut, this has to go through, so the settings are profile cut 6mm endmill, outside cut, and 25mm depth and hit create.
