The Make-It-In-An-Hour Mini Shrug
Hi guys
This is my first instructable. I will show you how to quickly make a simple, cozy and fashionable mini shrug/neck piece. These make ideal gifts for anyone and can be worn in all seasons. It can be worn in different styles as can be seen in the pictures.
To complete this instructable you will need the following:
Materials needed:
- Yarn - I have used ~2 mm diameter thickness - 2 colors
- Crochet needle - size 5.5mm. However, depending on the yarn thickness you can use others.
- Button
- Plastic bead/pearl
Abbrevations:
ch: chain
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
sl st: slip stitch
x: times
st: stitch
sts: stitches
R1, R2... : Row 1, Row 2 etc.
Pattern Instructions for the Shrug
Special stitches:
2-dc cluster: this cluster is worked into a chain stitch, *yarn over, insert hook into the specified chain stitch, yarn over and draw through two loops on your hook* repeat from *to* a second time, yarn over and draw the loop through all 3 loops on the hook.
3-dc cluster: this cluster is worked across 3 double crochet stitches, *yarn over, insert hook into the next dc, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on your hook* repeat from *to* for the next two double crochet stitches, yarn over and draw through all four loops remaining on the hook
Start:
R1: Begin with grey yarn; make a foundation chain of 49 stitches
R2: 1 dc in the 4th chain from the hook and in each stitch across, ch 3, turn [46]
R3: (1 dc in each of the first 6 sts, 2 dc in the next st) x6, leave the last 4 sts unworked [this is where the button is to be stitched], ch 3, turn [48]
R4: (1 dc in each of the first 7 sts, 2 dc in the next st) x6, ch 3, turn [54]
R5: (1 dc in each of the first 8 sts, 2 dc in the next st) x6, ch 3, turn [60]
R6: (1 dc in each of the first 9 sts, 2 dc in the next st) x6, ch 3, turn [66]; change to yellow yarn
R7: 1 dc in the first st, (ch 3, 2-dc cluster in the 3rd chain from the hook; 3-dc cluster over the next 3 sts) repeat across to the last st, chain 3; 2 dc-cluster in the 3rd chain from the hook
Turn the project 90 degrees to work along ends of the rows: (ch 3, 2-dc cluster in the 3rd chain from the hook, sc into the next row end) x4,
Working the chain for the flower: Make a chain of 150, fold it in half and join each end to the 6th dc and the other end to the 43rd dc on the foundation chain. Stitch the beads (pearls) at even intervals onto the chain.
Pattern Instruction for the Flower
Make a chain of 2
Round 1: Make 8 sc in the second chain from hook; slip stitch in the first single crochet to join.
Round 2: chain 2; (yarn over; insert hook in the next stitch; pull up a loop; yarn over; pull through 2 loops) x 3, yarn over and pull through all remaining 4 loops; chain 1 sl st in the next stitch.
Repeat "round 2" in the remaining 6 stitches.
Stitch the flower to the center of the two chains [made in previous step]
