The Never Ending Top...until the Battery Dies

Tops have been around for a very long time and have had hardly any changes. You pick them up, spin them, they start to slow down and topple over. All in just a few seconds. But if you add a motor...Well you see what I mean. Heres how I was able to get a top to spin normally for about a day and a half.

The Materials

To Make this top you'll need....

  • Black Electrictians Tape
  • Scissors (optional)
  • Blank or Old CD
  • Super Glue
  • AA Battery
  • Old cd player motor with the disc clip
  • Wire Strippers
  • Switch
  • One Airsoft or metal BB

Preparing the CD

First take the electricitians tape and line up the cd edge to the center of the tape. Pull the tape and start wrapping around the cd until the edge is about double the thickness of the original cd.

The Motor

Wire the motor to one of the switches wires. then take the other motor wire and run it to the "-" side of the battery with tape. Then attach the other switch wire to the "+" side of the battery.Turn it on and test if it works.

Placing the BB

Put a dab of super glue on the very middle of the cd clip. Then place the bb directly centered on it. Let it dry and test if its centered by turning the motor. If it doesn't seem to be moving its centered.

Put It All Together

Tape the battery to the middle of the back of the motor yet again directly centered. Next bend the switch on to the top of the battery centered just above it. hold the whole thing in this position and secure it tightly with tape. To change the battery you have to unravel the tape but its worth it for how long one battery lasts. Now clip on the cd and turn it on. Let it spin for a while while you hold the motor in the air. Then slowly let it down onto a flat smooth surface hold it there for a couple of seconds and let go. The motor should then start spinning as well as the cd. It will go on for as long as the battery has power or until you turn it off. ENJOY!!!
