The Real Gym

FLOOR PLAN 3D.png

Hallo!

We are 8th graders from J.C. Booth Middle School that are using this project to enter the Make It Real Contest. This gym design is for athletes who are rehabilitating after an injury they may have. It would have many important features like a swimming pool and weight room as well as smaller features like hand sanitizer dispensers and UV lights in rooms.

Brainstorming

We started with thinking of features to add to the gym. We also researched equipment that was in rehabilitation centers. We then started to think about the Covid situation and how to deal with it. We came up with using UV lights on the floors to kill bacteria on surfaces and skylights for UV from the sun. We made a list of ideas to organize them.

We are using Autodesk Homestyler to make this project. We started thinking about having 4 major workout rooms but decided to scrap that idea and instead have smaller rooms for more private and safer means of exercise especially with this pandemic.

After figuring out where we wanted each room we put in the equipment. The equipment in this gym will have ranges from the common equipment in gyms like weights to stuff specially made for rehabilitation. An example of this is parallel bars used to help someone recover their ability to walk. These are pictures of the rooms with their equipment in them.

We thought of many different ideas to make the gym safe that couldn't be added with Homestyler.

  • UV lights in lockers and under equipment to sanitize
  • Sanitizing stations everywhere.
  • Skylights for natural lighting and for killing germs since they will let in UV light from the sun
  • Harness on some treadmills
  • A retractable basketball hoop to make the room a track and volleyball court.
  • Temperature checkers at the reception hall
  • Water bottle refill stations instead of water fountains
  • A pool lift
  • plexiglass around the reception desk and snack bars
