The Sensory Seat Belt
The Sensory Seatbelt is a customizable seat belt strap that includes sensory toys and fidget technology to decrease sensory stimuli. The Sensory Seat Belt wraps around a standard seat belt strap in your vehicle using Velcro's for a simple application and removal. This invention is made out of breathable material and has durability to hold different customizable toys that are best suited for your child. Not only will the Sensory Seat Belt keep your child occupied and decrease anxiety, but these toys are also used to improve fine motor skills, hand dexterity, and coordination.
Supplies
Cloth fabric, velcro, a hot glue gun, a tape measure, a button, a zipper, customizable patches, a duster cloth head, along with fidget toys were all needed to create this device. All items were purchased from Walmart.
First, measure the seat belt in the car where the Sensory Seat Belt will be placed. Then cut the cloth to desired length so it can be positioned around the seatbelt. Our Sensory Seat Belt prototype is about 4 inches across, 26 inches long and 8 inches around.
Second, hot glue velcro along the ends of the cloth, creating one continuous piece of fabric when the ends are attached.
Third, attach the sensory toys to the fabric using velcro for interchangeable toys and the hot glue gun for permanent fixtures.
Lastly, fasten the Sensory Seat Belt around the seatbelt in the car and begin use.
