The Vaunt Vest

The Vaunt Vest is a v-neck side vest that utilizes cute ribbons on the sides and in the middle to secure the fit.

The vest consists of 3 main panels: 2 front panels (L&R) and the back panel. This pattern follows the indicated measurements above (Front panel – 7 in. W x 20 in. L; Back panel – 17.5 in. W x 20 in. L). You may adjust the pattern according to your desired measurements. The materials you will need are:

• ~500g cotton yarn in the main color of your vest
• ~100g cotton yarn in the secondary color of your vest (This will be used for the borders and ties)

The amount of yarn you need will differ based on your measurements.

• Measurement tape
• Crochet hook
• Darning needle
• Scissors

I purchased my yarn from this shop on Shopee (support small businesses!). Abbreviations for stitches are as follows:

• SC - Single Crochet
• HDC - Half double crochet
• FPTRC - Front post treble crochet
• FPDTRC - Front post double treble crochet
• Dec - Decrease

Tutorials for each stitch will be attached for the step they will be needed in.

After each row, excluding the foundation chain, make sure to turn your work and chain 2 to start each row.

• Start by making a slipknot and chain 29.
• Row 1: Skip 2 chains and half double crochet into the next 27 stitches (27)
• Row 2: Chain 2, half double crochet into the rest of the row.

• Row 3: Chain 2, 9 HDC, 6 FPTRC, 5 HDC, 6 FPTRC, 1 HDC
• Row 4: Chain 2, 27 HDC
• Row 5: Chain 2, 9 HDC 6 FPTRC, 5 HDC, 6 FPTRC, 1 HDC
• Row 6: Chain 2, 27 HDC
• Row 7: Chain 2, 9 HDC 6 FPDTRC, 5 HDC, 6 FPDTRC, 1 HDC
• Row 8: Chain 2, 27 HDC

Repeat this pattern until Row 36.

To begin making the v-neck:

• Row 37: Chain 2, 9 HDC, 6 FPDTRC, 5 HDC, 4 FPTRC, FPTRC Dec, 1 HDC
• Row 38: Chain 2, 27 HDC
• Row 39: Chain 2, 9 HDC, 6 FPTRC, 5 HDC, 3 FPTRC, FPTRC Dec, 1 HDC
• Row 40: Chain 2, 27 HDC
• Row 41: Chain 2, 9 HDC, 6 FPTRC, 5 HDC, 2 FPTRC, FPTRC Dec, 1 HDC
• Row 42: Chain 2, 27 HDC
• Row 43: Chain 2, 9 HDC, 6 FPDTRC, 5 HDC, FPTRC Dec, 1 HDC

You've now made your v-neck!

After you've created your v-neck, we will proceed to create rows of the now decreased pattern to create the shoulders of the vest.

• Row 51: Chain 2, 9 HDC, 6 FPTRC, 1 HDC
• Row 52: Chain 2, 27 HDC
• Row 53: Chain 2, 9 HDC, 6 FPTRC, 1 HDC
• Row 54: Chain 2, 27 HDC
• Row 55: Chain 2, 9 HDC, 6 FPDTRC, 1 HDC
• Row 56: Chain 2, 27 HDC
• Row 57: Chain 2, 9 HDC, 6 FPTRC, 1 HDC
• Row 58: Chain 2, 27 HDC
• Row 59: Chain 2, 9 HDC, 6 FPTRC, 1 HDC
• Row 60: Chain 2, 27 HDC

To end off the panel, SC and pull to tie it off. Cut off your ends.

Refer to Step 2 for references on FPTRC and FPDTRC

To create the right front panel, simply reverse the pattern for the left front panel.

LEFT PANEL: 9 HDC > 6 FPTRC/FPDTRC > 5 HDC > 6 FPTRC/FPDTRC > 1 HDC

RIGHT PANEL: 1 HDC > 6 FPTRC/FPDTRC > 5 HDC > 6 FPTRC/FPDTRC > 9 HDC

Repeat steps 1-4 with this reversed pattern to create the right panel.

First, for the measurements of the back panel:

• WIDTH: (# of stitches of each row of the front panels + 1) x 2 + 9 stitches

In this pattern, (27 + 1) x 2 + 9 = 65.

• LENGTH: same # of rows as front panels

In this pattern, 60 rows

• Starting off, add 2 stitches to your computed # of stitches per row. Slip knot and chain this number of stitches. In this case, chain 67.
• Row 1: Skip 2, 65 HDC into each stitch.
• Rows 2-58: Chain 2, 65 HDC.
• Row 58: Mark 28 stitches from each side, leaving 9 stitches in the middle. 26 HDC, HDC dec
• Row 59: Chain 2, HDC dec, 25 HDC
• Chain 1 and tie off the end.
• Repeat on the other end of the panel.

Line up your front and back panels together. You may opt to lay it out first and secure the panels with pins of stitch markers to make this easier.

• Next, align the stitches of your one of your front panels and your back panel together.
• Loop through the end of the panels together. Chain 1.
• In the same stitch, SC. Continue until the end of the front panel. Chain 1, tie off and cut off the ends.
• Repeat for the other panel.

Before beginning on your border, use stitch markers to mark where you would like to add your ties on each panel. Ensure that your marker on the front panel is aligned with that of the back panel. To create the border, begin at the bottom left corner of your left panel.

• Insert your hook into the corner bottom stitch of your left panel. SC until you reach your stitch marker.
• Upon reaching your stitch marker, SC and chain 31.
• Skip 1 stitch and SC into the next 30 stitches.
• Continue SC until the next stitch marker. Keep going until you meet the corner bottom stitch of your left panel once again.
• Upon reaching the end, chain 1 and tie off. Cut off ends.

You may adjust the length of your ties. Make sure to add an extra chain to your desired length for the loop.

Voilà! You're done! Now you're ready to flaunt your Vaunt Vest.
