The Bucket Lamp.

Here is a quick and easy one that is handy down in the basement work shop with many rafters to hang it from. If you want bright but diffused light to work with, or a nice hanging lamp for that back yard party that's guaranteed not harsh your mellow, this is the lamp for you.

First You Need a Bucket With a Lid.

This one came from the grocery co-op I work at, restaurants are also a good source. I have used 2 and 5 gallon buckets.

Bolt on the Fixture.

I used a porcelain fixture with a pull chain switch. Notice I forgot to attach the cord.

Connect Cord.

Then bolt fixture to lid.

Cut Hole in Bottom of Bucket.

This step is only necessary with a pull chain switch.

Put Lid on Bucket.

I later cut a notch in the lip of the bucket and ran the cord out of the top.

Finished.

I used a compact fluorescent light.  I don't recommend using an incandescent bulb since the bucket is plastic and could melt or burn.
