Tinfoil Rose Valentine's Day
Valentine's day is coming up! What to do for a gift?
Do you go for chocolate, flowers, stuffed animal or a simple card? All a bit too classic for you?
Make your own gift! There is no better way to show your appreciation for someone than by making something unique that only they have. They will love it believe me!
Therefor as inspiration I would like to present to you the Tinfoil Rose. A rose completely made out of Tinfoil!
Gather Your Materials
This project does not require much! The only things you need are:
- 1m Tinfoil (Including losses).
- 1x sharp Scissor.
- 1x Marker (Optional)
yup that's all there is to it!
Creating Your Leaves
To create your leaves follow these steps:
- Grab a sheet of foil around 30x30 cm (LxW)
- Fold it over on itself till you have rectangle left of about 5x8 cm (Not so strict)
- Draw your leaf shape on the tinfoil. (See image)
- Finally cut out the leaf shape
This will result in you obtaining many leaves at once saving you a lot of time!
The Rose Core
Grab a leaf and position it in your hand as indicated by the included image. Then start wrapping it around your finger. The goal is to create a small funnel-shaped core. See the included image.
Prepping Your Leaves
In this step, you have to decide how you want your finished rose to look. Do you want it mirror-like smooth rose or do you add a lot of wrinkles to the leaves to create some texture? You can try different techniques and mix and match the different leaves you have created.
To create a leaf do the following:
- Apply your preferred texture.
- Fold in a 90-degree angle about 2-3mm of the top of the leaf. This is to create some depth in your leaf
- Rotate the leaf making the 90-degree fold point downwards
- Then with the fold still down pull both sides up to create a half pipe-like shape. (experiment a little with the amount of fold.)
Now you have created your leaves!
Building Your Rose
Grab the core of your flower and place it in u shape of your prepared leaves as is indicated by the image. Make sure that the folded edge is facing outwards an. Proceed by wrapping the bottom part of the leaf around the core of the rose and make sure not to squash the upper part. The goal is to make the leaf hug the core without the leaf upper part and the core funnel touching. The end result should look something like the included image where a new rim is created in the left side of the core
Continue Building Your Rose
Repeat the previous step by alternating the addition of leaves on either side of the core. Eventually, start rotating around the core when your rose is big enough. This step will require some practice so don't get discouraged on your first rose! Keep continue doing this and you will see your rose start to take shape!
My advice is to lower each leaf a little bit every layer. It will make your rose look even better!
Beginning of the Stem
Cut a strip of tinfoil about 3x20 cm. Place the small stem of your current rose on one end of the strip. Then start wrapping it around at an angle such that you increase the lenght of the stem. Increase the stem by a few centimeters but do not use the full strip yet!
Creation of the Stem Leaves
To make the leaves along the stem do the following:
- Cut 3 squares of about 9x9cm.
- Fold them in half along the diagonal creating triangles.
- Draw the outline of the leaves like the image provided. Be careful to not make them to wide or long.
- Draw little inserts at the side of the leaves.
- Cut along the outline and cut the little inserts along the side of the leaves.
- Fold them open to reveal your leaf.
Repeat this step 2 more times to create a total of 3 leaves.
Merge the bottom of the leaves similar to the provided image to create a set of 3.
Add the Leaves to the Stem
Use the remaining strip under the Rose to combine the leaves to the stem.
Every rose is different so choose the height to place your leaves, based on what fits best with your rose.
More Leaves!
Follow the same steps as for the previous leaves but make these leaves a little bigger!
Increase the length of the stem using another strip of tinfoil. Then combine these larger leaves to the stem at a height that suits your rose.
Enjoy Your Rose!
The last step is to enjoy your personal rose!
