The concept was to create a link between a real potato and a 3D virtual design. The most popular Kids Film Toy Story, I love the plot and story line and the graphics is appealing to kids and adults alike. I wanted to replicate the character design in tinkercad to physically attach the various parts onto a normal potato.

Supplies

Tinkercad and 3D printing if necessary... or if you do not have a 3D printer then you can get it designed by other relevant sources. Alternatively you can download my CAD design and tinker to make it better. [please credit me]

The physical shape will of course be a potato...so I did my research and looked at the average size of potato...I am aware that potatoes can come in so many shapes and form and with curves and dents. It was pretty simple...I rummaged through my mums pantry and worked with what I thought was normal.

Mr potato of course has a hat, 2 hands, 2 legs, 2 eyes, 2 eyebrow, 2 ears and shoes. Of course a nose and mouth and the good looking moustache.

Basic shapes work wonders...to create more complex or interesting shapes I would take a solid shape and overlay another shape to ingrave a new dimension. I used a red box and duplicated it and made another, one of the boxes (grayed out is the hole a hollow shape). I used the blinding button to create a new insertion to our solid red box linke shown in the images.

I needed a method of attaching all the various parts to a potato, for me I think a simple pin method will work since the property of a potato is a lot more durable then a lemon due to less moisture and liquid content. The process of design was so much simpler and neat, I enjoyed designing the nose especially since it was a challenge to make a nose and getting those dimensions right was tricky. Let me know what you’ll thought about the design and what could be made better.

I had great fun creating the character, it was a fun and enjoyable process to design, please let me know in the comments what I can do to improve, maybe accessories and cool facial expressions and maybe even other characters like Mrs. Potato Head?
